It all started on a warm summer day in July on the lake. The wives were sitting around the pool having a few cocktails while the husbands watched the kids and played host. As the ladies’ glasses became low, they would simply raise them and call out “Oh Cabana Boy” and one of the husbands would bring them a new beverage of their choice. The first name of the homeowner where this annual gathering took place is “Bob”. In trying to be a good host, Bob would provide the wives with more attention. As they raised their glasses (in what they claimed was a toast), the ladies returned the favor and bestowed upon him the name “Cabana Bob”. The newly-christened Cabana Bob, however, still remembers this as asking for another refill. Now, whenever anyone is going down to Bob’s lake house, they say they are going to “Cabana Bob’s”.
The nickname was derived by a bunch of forty-something friends gathered around for a few laughs while enjoying many, many cocktails. It only seemed natural that the logo would be a tray of drinks. You have martini glasses, a few cans of beer, a bottle of wine and the ace in the hole…a pitcher of margaritas. The basic tray of drinks from which just about anyone can find something they like.
At first, we purchased camp shirts and embroidered our logo on the front left pocket to give away as gifts to friends when they visited. Now, we don’t know if the shirts we gave away were really cool shirts or if the price was right, but everybody loved them. As word got out, more and more people wanted their very own.
So, what started out as a hoot, has turned into “Cabana Bob’s”. Our goal is to provide the baby boomer generation, which is us, something to buy that looks great, is made to last and doesn’t break the bank. We sized our apparel to have a relaxed fit (‘cause we’re over 40 and we don’t work out as much anymore) with a timeless style that looks great with khaki pants or your favorite pair of old blue jeans.
